"TAKING CARE OF ME"

You might find it strange that I do not have any memory of being held by my mother. I remember sitting at her feet while she rocked someone else and I remember sitting beside her while she held someone else.

I think it was probably a result of her getting hurt when I was about 13 months old. Because of that she was not able to pick me up. During her recovery she had my baby sister to take care of so Daddy took responsibility for my care. I do remember being held by him a lot. Mom had her hands full with my little sister, Eileen. By the time Mom got better it had become natural that she would take care of Eileen and Daddy would take care of me. It was just the way it things were. I also remember that when Eileen and I were about 4 and 5 years old Mom got sick again when she was pregnant with Jimmy. She soon had her hands full taking care of Jimmy. When we went places Sharon was often assigned to take care of Eileen and Shirley was assigned to take care of me. I guess it was all part of having a large family. Through it all I have always felt very loved by my mother and still feel very blessed to be her daughter.
